Location
Located in Mijas, a very popular and fast growing resort, La Cala is around a 20 min drive from Malaga International airport along the N340 Motorway.
Within 30 minutes or less of La Cala de Mijas are the internationally famous towns of Marbella, Puerto Banus, Fuengirola and Torremolinos. All of which are easily accessible via the N340 motorway.
La Cala makes a perfect holiday destination all year round. The Mediterranean climate enables visitors of La Cala de Mijas to enjoy a seamless indoor/outdoor lifestyle enjoyed by visitors and holiday makers across the whole of the Costa del Sol.
What to see and do in La Cala
La Cala is very self contained, with almost every amenity you can think of including, two of the main Spanish supermarkets, Supersol and Mercadona, a number of different banks, state doctors, private doctors, lawyers , dentists, private and state schools, shops, boutiques and plenty more besides. The Costa del Sol hospital is close by via a short 15minute drive in the Marbella direction.
La Cala’s white sandy beaches are kept beautifully clean and offer a number of different chiringuito (beach bars) restaurants, parks, shops, water sports and activities nearby.
Many quality sporting and recreational facilities can be found in and around La Cala de Mijas. For locals there is a gymnasium in the centre of La Cala that is funded by the council, as well as offering a number of different sporting activities for children throughout summer at a heavily subsidised cost. Miraflores has a Lawn Bowls centre which is popular with locals and holiday makers of all ages. Riviera, the next urbanisation towards Marbella, just minutes away is the Aztec Club, which has an Olympic sized swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna and crazy golf. Also nearby in Calahonda, the next stop past Riviera, is home to the Club del Sol tennis club, with tennis, Paddle, Squash, Jacuzzi, sauna and gymnasium. One huge attraction for holiday makers on the Costa del Sol or as some call it the Costa del Golf, is La Cala’s competition standard golf courses which can be found in La Cala, Mijas Golf, Santana Golf and El Chaparral. You don’t have to be a member to visit these courses and all equipment can be hired there. There is also tuition for those who want or rather need it!
La Cala contains an abundance of fabulous restaurants, and despite the high standards, prices are very reasonable in this area when compared with prices in the rest of Europe. Restaurants rage from the very simple and very Spanish chiringuito (beach bar) fish and tapas, to fabulous Italians, Indians, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, French, plus many more.
Activities are aplenty with a wide variety close by; there are many different water sports to choose from, two fabulous water parks (one in Torremoilinos and one in Fuengirola) Tivoli world, Sea Life, Selwo Maria, Selwo Safari, Fuengirols Zoo, Cable Cars, crazy golf, and much, much more!
There are plenty of activities available for adults too, with Marbella Casino 25 minutes away, and the Hipodromo del Costa del Sol a mere 5 min drive from La Cala, via the back road to Fuengirola. As well as holding regular horse racing events throughout summer, the Hipodromo also holds, live music events, concerts, shows, exhibitions and events. You can find a number of bars and restaurants and there are often inflatable castles and activities provided for the children making the Hipodromo a great day out for either the family, as a couple or a night out with friends.
If you would prefer to ride the horses rather than bet on them, La Cala has a number of equestrian schools providing trekking and lessons for people of all ages and skill levels. There is also an excursion available to a truly spectacular Andalucían horse show, which is a “must see” for you horsey lovers out there; the trip also includes dinner and a flamenco show.
