Spain is quite a large country with a diverse climate from green fields and mountainous country in the north to hot and arid areas in the south. Spain has a long and often bloody history which is steeped in pride and tradition. Visitors and tourists who visit Spain in the modern day can expect to see many traces of the imperial past of a country which once controlled most of the Western world as we know it today.

Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world today, behind only English and Chinese, and Spanish is spoken almost entirely in the south of America, the only exception being Brazil where mostly Portuguese is spoken. Spanish is a rich and romantic Latin-based language, with many variations spoken in Spain. The most common is Castellano which internationally is simply known as Spanish. However within Spain there are other variations such as Basque, Catalan and Galician.

The 50 provinces of Spain are grouped into 17 autonomous communities with 2 autonomous cities based in the African mainland, Ceuta and Melilla. The 17 autonomous communities of Spain are Andalucia, Murcia, Valencia, Catalonia, Aragon, Navarre, La Rioja, Basque Country, Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia, Castile-Leon, Madrid, Castile-La Mancha, Extremadura, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.
